National Defence Academy (NDA) is one such institution which propels the student in the arena of life and contributes to a very successful and fulfilled career. But to get enrolled in this institution means goal directed study for passing in a competitive examination which is conducted by union public service commission nationwide For recruitment to Army, Navy and Air Force wings of Indian Army, there is prestigious National Defence Academy Entrance Examination. The examination is conducted twice a year, and the duration of training is three years.
Though the candidate may give his preference for  a particular wing of the Armed Forces, the final selection depends upon his performance and place in the list.

There are more then 1,50,000 candidates appearing in this examination The number of students which started with 40,000 has been swelling up every year because of the opportunity provided by the Academy for training as an officer in the Armed Forces. As the number of the student has increased so has the competitive level of examination. At one particular mark there are more then 500 student. This, however, does not mean that it is impossible to compete in the examination. It means one has to go though good amount of study for this examination.

                                                 Month and Frequency of one Examination
The examination is conducted in a scheduled way by Union Public Service Commission and is held twice a year generally, in the months of April and September.

The examination is held in esteem by the student. It is a big thing to be enrolled in National Defence Academy. As soon as a child reaches class Vlll, he begins to aspire for a career as an officer has many amenities. It is also prestigious to hold an office in the security resource of the country. It is a noble job to serve the country in this manner. In a way, one is a confident of the government which relies heavily on its Armed Forces for the security of the country.

                                                                    General Eligibility
These are the pre-requisites for being eligible for a life as an officer in NDA.
(a)  Nationality
A candidate must be either:
(i) a citizen of India, or
(ii) a subject of Bhutan, or
(iii) a subject of Nepal, or
(iv) a Tibetan refugee who came over to India before the 1st January, 1962 with the intention of permanently setting in India, or
(v) a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka and East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Zaire and Ethiopia and Vietnam with the intention of permanently setting in India.

(b) Age limit, sex and marital status
           A candidate must be an unmarried male and must have attained the age of 16 ½ years and        must  not have attained the age 19 years on the 1st January or 1st July of the year succeeding the year of examination.

(c)   Educational qualifications
(i) For Army wing of National Defence Academy. Class XII pas of the 1+2 pattern of school     education or equivalent examination conducted by a State Education Board or a University.
(ii) For Air Force and Naval wings of National Defence Academy and for the 10+2(Executive Branch) Course at the Naval Academy, Class XII pass of the 10+2 pattern of school education or equivalent with Physics and Mathematics conducted by a state Education Board or a University.
